Vaso Mezzo the half pot is a beautiful low and wide terracotta planter. There are so many planting possibilities with this pot, from planting herbs to potting up small trees and herbaceous perennials, the Mezzo is so versatile. In the Vaso Toscano garden we love to change the planting seasonally and we are always drawn to the combinations of glorious tulips in the Spring mixed with colourful pansies and ornamental grasses, like the evergreen grass, Carex, thats a perfect sized grass for textural interest and contrast.
In the summertime, the Vaso Mezzo is the perfect pot for Dahlia, deep and wide enough for plenty of nutrient-rich compost to support the growth of the Dahlia but also wide enough to allow for the plant supports if needed. The larger size Mezzo, is a substantial pot and is easily big enough for a topiary shrub or an ornamental tree or even gnarled old olive tree.
These pots are made with the prized Galestro clay of Tuscany and handmade in a village near Siena by skilled artisans using the traditional method of hand moulding. This ensures the terracotta pot has the perfect thickness of clay to give it a superior strength and quality, along with the very high firing temperature, our terracotta pots are made to withstand extremes of temperature. The result of using the Galestro clay and the high firing temperatures, gives the Tuscan terracotta a warm, authentic patina that cannot be repeated with mass production. Our pots are made one at a time and take a period of six weeks to complete.
Wherever possible we like to deliver personally, this means we can get the pot to your chosen location or leave it in a safe place for you if you are not going to be at home. All our planting pots come with a geotextile membrane to line the pot, thats for optional use. The membrane will help protect the roots from baking in the summer but it also helps keep the creepy crawlies from entering up through the drainage hole. Water can pass freely through the membrane in a more controlled fashion. The three terracotta risers that we supply with the pot, help with the airflow under the pot, which benefits the roots and also allows for proper drainage, which is so important in the winter.
